The Town of Vail Youth Ambassador Award
is given annually by the Vail Town Council to recognize
two outstanding high school juniors from the Vail Valley
and to foster a cross-cultural and inter-community awareness
between Vail and its 'sister cities', the Mansfield
and Benalla Rural Shires in Victoria, Australia.
Any number of qualified applicants will be considered
from both Battle Mountain High School
and Vail Mountain School. A committee
designated by the Vail Valley Exchange
will review the applications and select the finalists.
The committee will interview both the finalist and their
parents and two students will be selected as ambassadors
from Vail, one each to Mansfield and Benalla respectively.
The Town of Vail Youth Ambassador/Benalla and Mansfield
Rural Shire Student Exchange has been operating successfully
for several years. The two applicants who are selected
are expected to participate in a variety of activities
that include work and/or volunteer experience in the
hospitality or ski industry. The applicant must be in
the 11th grade and reside in the Vail Valley. The town
of Vail will provide airfare and $500 spending money
to the selected applicants, who must commit to spending
six weeks in one of the other of our sister communities
and participate in either a working or volunteer situation.
The Vail Valley Exchange will make
travel and host family arrangements and will make every
effort to find employment, although this cannot be relied
upon as a given. A provision for acceptance into this
program is acknowledgement from the potential ambassador’s
parents or guardian that reciprocal housing in this
valley will be provided for an exchange student from
one of our sister cities. The Australian students usually
arrive in mid-December and stay until the end of January
and typically work for Vail Resorts in on-mountain dining.

The Town of Vail Youth Recognition Award
is given annually by the Vail Town Council to recognize
and reinforce outstanding achievement by youth of the
Upper Eagle Valley; both for their individual achievements
and as role models for their peers. The Youth Recognition
Award also carries with it a $ 1000 scholarship to the
college of choice of the recipient. A check for this
amount is presented to the winner at an awards ceremony
in the Town of Vail Municipal Council Chambers, where
they are also introduced to and recognized by the council.
